PRESS RELEASE: Thresholds of Perception, Curated by Armstrong Fine Art Consulting
FOR RELEASE AUGUST 1, 2026
NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, ON – August 2026 – Atelier Ironwood is pleased to present Thresholds of Perception: Where Observation Becomes Experience, a two-person exhibition featuring Canadian artists Ron Wilkie and Svetlana Turov, opening Sunday, August 16, 2026 and continuing through September 13, 2026.
A special Meet the Artists reception will take place on Sunday, August 16, 2026 from 1:00–4:00 PM, offering visitors an opportunity to engage directly with both artists and gain insight into their distinct creative processes.
Bringing together painting and Fiber Fine Art, Thresholds of Perception explores the space where observation transforms into emotional and sensory experience. Though working in different mediums, Wilkie and Turov share an interest in moving beyond representation—creating works that invite viewers to slow down, reflect, and engage more deeply with the act of looking.
Ron Wilkie’s paintings begin with the visual language of landscape while extending into atmosphere and emotion. Rooted in observation yet shaped by memory and intuition, his luminous compositions depict forests, shorelines, changing skies, and moments of stillness that encourage personal reflection. Rather than documenting specific places, Wilkie creates spaces that feel familiar and open-ended—landscapes that become emotional experiences.
In contrast, Svetlana Turov’s Fiber Fine Art explores perception through material transformation. Working with natural fibers including wool and silk, she creates richly layered, dimensional works that blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture. Her tactile surfaces evoke movement, rhythm, and the physical qualities of the natural world without direct representation, inviting viewers to experience material as atmosphere and sensation.
Together, Wilkie and Turov present two distinct approaches to image-making that converge in their shared interest in perception, memory, and presence. Through realism and abstraction, surface and atmosphere, both artists ask viewers to consider not only what they see, but how they experience it.
