Dr. Lynette Fast is a Canadian expressionist painter whose richly layered works explore the rhythms of the natural world as visual poetry. Based on the Niagara Escarpment Bench, she creates immersive paintings inspired by daily walks through the Bruce Trail, Niagara Glen, and her expansive garden. Working with pigmented inks, acrylics, and light-fast pens on Yupo and Strathmore papers, her intuitive process invites viewers to see familiar landscapes with fresh reverence—through syncopated textures, layered colour, and lyrical abstraction.

Fast’s background in art education, research, and visual literacy informs a thoughtful, exploratory approach to her medium. Each work is a result of days or weeks of glazing, mono-printing, calligraphic linework, and compositional refinement. Her attention to pattern, movement, and balance echoes decades of study—making her work deeply resonant with collectors who appreciate conceptually rich and materially refined art.

A longtime arts educator and policy leader, Dr. Fast earned a PhD in Learning and Instruction and an MEd in Art Education. She has served as Chair of the Fine Arts Committee at Brock University and as a leading voice in national arts education organizations including the Ontario Society for Education Through Art (OSEA) and the Canadian Society for Education Through Art (CSEA). Upon retiring from academia, she was honoured with the Ray Blackwell Award for Excellence in Art Education and now paints full-time from her large home studio-gallery in Niagara.

Her work has been exhibited across Toronto and Niagara, and remains sought-after by collectors who value its balance of movement, meditative depth, and connection to place.
