(b. Germany | Lives and works in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada)
Brita Housez is a German-born, Canadian painter whose dynamic acrylic compositions blend vibrant colour with textured surfaces and expressive intent. Moving fluidly between impressionism and abstraction, her work reflects an emotional response to the world—inviting collectors into a dialogue about nature, humanity, and shared experience.
With a background that includes time in France, Quebec, and now over 30 years in St. Catharines, Brita brings a multicultural lens to her creative practice. While she first gained national recognition as the author of Tofu Mania, a bestselling health-focused cookbook, her longstanding interest in painting has become the driving force of her artistic life.
Brita’s work has evolved from natural realism to a more intuitive, layered approach. Her current paintings feature luminous acrylics combined with mixed media elements to enhance texture and depth. Carefully chosen titles often infuse each piece with a social message—exploring joy, conflict, love, and climate change through colour and form.
An active member of the St. Catharines Art Association, Brita has exhibited in numerous regional shows, including at the Dundas Valley School of Art and in community fundraising events. Her artwork has also been selected for book and CD covers, and in 2022, two of her paintings were featured in the Presbyterian Church of Canada calendar—one as the cover image.
As Brita continues to evolve her expressive visual language, her work resonates with collectors who value art that reflects the emotional and social currents of our time.
