Artist Talk with Canadian artist Geoff Farnsworth at Atelier Ironwood Sunday, Nov. 8, 2026

In this artist talk, Geoff Farnsworth invites us into the intimate and often unseen space of artistic process—where intuition, restraint, and discovery converge. Moving beyond a fixed narrative, Farnsworth reflects on what it means to “listen” to a painting as it unfolds, responding to its subtle cues and shifting demands in real time.

Working within the tension between figuration and abstraction, his practice is not about control, but about balance—between what is revealed and what is withheld, between structure and spontaneity, composition and emotional impact. Each work becomes a dialogue, guided as much by instinct as by intention.

At the core of his practice is a sensitivity to emergence—an openness to what reveals itself slowly through layers of attention and response. Rather than imposing meaning, Farnsworth allows the work to guide its own evolution, embracing uncertainty as an essential part of creation. In this way, painting becomes less about resolution and more about attunement: a continual negotiation between intention and instinct.

Farnsworth’s approach asks us to reconsider how images come into being—not as static compositions, but as living fields of perception. Forms are not simply constructed; they are discovered, adjusted, and felt into place. The act of painting becomes a process of continuous listening, where meaning emerges through time, patience, and a willingness to follow the unknown.

This talk offers a rare opportunity to experience painting not as a finished object, but as an evolving process—one that mirrors the complexities of perception itself. In tracing the delicate interplay between control and surrender, Farnsworth opens a space for reflection on how we see, interpret, and make sense of the world around us.

Seating is limited, and advance booking is recommended.
