Ann Clarke, one of Canada’s leading abstract painters for over six decades, brings a masterful understanding of colour, movement, and materiality to a body of work shaped by international training, national exhibitions, and a lifelong commitment to painting.

Ann Clarke (b. 1944, Norwich, UK) is an established Canadian abstract painter whose work has been collected and exhibited for over five decades. A graduate of London’s renowned Slade School of Fine Art, Clarke brought her bold, expressive visual language to Canada in 1968, where she became a significant force in contemporary abstraction.

Her paintings—known for their lyrical movement, dynamic colour, and formal clarity—offer a compelling evolution of postwar abstraction, informed by both British modernism and North American colour field traditions. Clarke’s work is represented in major public and private collections across Canada, the U.K., the U.S., and Australia.

With over 40 solo exhibitions and more than 90 group shows to her name, Clarke has earned national recognition, including election to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2008. Her extensive teaching career at top Canadian institutions reflects her influence on subsequent generations of artists, while her own work continues to evolve in scale, energy, and depth.

For collectors seeking meaningful abstraction with historical roots and proven longevity, Ann Clarke’s work offers a unique combination of visual sophistication, international pedigree, and strong market relevance.
