Parameters: Geometric and Linear Works presents a body of paintings that investigates the relationship between structure, intuition, and transformation. Through compositions built from intersecting lines, shifting geometries, and layered spatial arrangements, Allan Lorne Hecker explores how boundaries become frameworks for discovery rather than limitation.

The title Parameters refers both to the formal conditions that shape each work and to the broader systems through which meaning is constructed. In Hecker’s practice, parameters are not fixed rules but evolving conditions—points of departure that allow compositions to emerge through process, response, and revision. Geometry and line become the visual tools through which this exploration unfolds.

Central to Hecker’s methodology is transformation through reclamation. Working on previously used canvases, he obscures existing imagery while allowing traces of earlier surfaces to remain embedded beneath the final composition. These hidden layers become active participants in the work, introducing memory, disruption, and continuity into each painting.

Beginning from a central point of development, Hecker constructs compositions through an intuitive process of expansion and refinement. Linear interventions establish direction; geometric forms emerge, overlap, and reorganize. Rather than executing predetermined outcomes, he responds to the evolving conditions of the surface, allowing the work to determine its own internal logic.

The resulting paintings balance precision with improvisation. Their architectural qualities suggest systems of organization and control, yet they retain an immediacy that reveals the movement of thought and the physical act of making. The compositions feel simultaneously structured and alive—ordered without becoming rigid.

Geometry functions as more than form and line as more than division. Together, they establish parameters through which rhythm, tension, and transformation occur. These works invite viewers to consider how structure can remain open, how boundaries can generate possibility, and how acts of rebuilding can produce entirely new ways of seeing.
