Matthias Bork—known professionally as MABO — comes from a family of artists tracing back to 1850. MABO has spent the past several decades developing a distinctive body of work rooted in abstract expressionism, while incorporating elements of surrealism, pointillism, and action painting. His style is bold, layered, and instantly recognizable, marked by an intuitive use of color, texture, and motion.

Before becoming a full-time artist in 2000, Bork trained as a master pastry chef and food stylist, eventually immigrating to Canada in 1986 and founding the well-known Spicy Thai restaurant in Toronto. Throughout his culinary career and beyond, painting remained a constant. Since the 1970s, he has produced thousands of works and studied art in Germany, Canada, and Mexico.

MABO works primarily in non-objective mixed media, as well as oil and acrylic on canvas and paper. His practice also extends to painted furniture and large-scale murals. Rich with emotional depth and visual energy, his works reflect a lifetime of creative exploration and technical refinement.

Over the past 25 years, MABO has exhibited in both Europe and North America and built an international collector base. His work is held in private and commercial collections across Canada, the United States, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Scotland, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Australia, and Vietnam.

For collectors seeking original, expressive abstraction with a globally recognized signature, MABO’s work offers a compelling mix of personal history, visual impact, and artistic authenticity.
