Bruno Capolongo
(b. 1971, Canada - Lives and works in Hamilton, Ontario)

Bruno Capolongo is a widely collected Canadian artist whose work bridges the classical and contemporary with striking originality. With a practice rooted in painting, mixed media, encaustic, and ceramics, Capolongo is known for his ability to fuse tradition with innovation—earning him a respected place in private, public, and corporate collections across North America and beyond.

Of Neapolitan heritage, Capolongo draws inspiration from the visual traditions of both East and West. His boldest contribution may be his adaptation of kintsugi—the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold—to contemporary visual art. These richly textured, slate-based works are physically shattered, reassembled, and refined with real gold, creating deeply symbolic, one-of-a-kind compositions that resonate with collectors seeking both substance and story.

Capolongo’s work has been featured in more than 160 group and 50 solo exhibitions, and represented by prestigious galleries in Toronto, New York, Montreal, and Washington, DC. His paintings have appeared on magazine covers, in books, on television, and in film, and his client list includes international dignitaries and institutional patrons. Notably, he is a rare three-time recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Prize—one of the world’s most coveted international art awards.

In 2025, Capolongo debuted his Double Vision series—an ambitious body of work in which every representational image is mirrored by its abstract counterpart. This series, like much of his work, reflects a lifelong commitment to craftsmanship, personal expression, and philosophical inquiry.

Collectors value Capolongo not only for his technical virtuosity, but for the emotional and cultural depth he brings to each piece. His work invites contemplation and commands presence—making it a standout in both private and institutional collections alike.
