Anja Steensma

Anja Steensma is a Canadian visual artist known for acrylic realist paintings that explore the interplay between urban structure and natural form. Her work captures the subtle tension between manmade geometry and organic elements, offering collectors a contemplative and visually balanced perspective on the built environment.

Originally trained and professionally active in interior design, Anja returned to her early passion for fine art with a self-directed practice rooted in abstract realism. Her paintings often begin as investigations—evolving through layers of form and shadow into cohesive, surprising compositions that invite repeated viewing.

Steensma’s subject matter focuses on urban landscapes and architectural details, with softened edges and natural interruptions that create a sense of both contrast and harmony. Working primarily in acrylic, she brings a refined understanding of colour, light, and space to each canvas.

Over the past several years, Anja has exhibited in respected regional venues, including the Grimsby Public Art Gallery, the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre, the Mann Gallery, VISA Gallery, and the Rodman Art Institute of Niagara.
