Susan de Leeuw is a Canadian Abstract & Photographic artist known for bold images that invite you to look at the spaces in between and around the paint or subject matter. Her work is distinguished by its boldness and layers, asking the viewer to sit with it and ponder life, appealing to collectors who value not only beauty but love to sit with the art and explore its nuances.
Susan began creating art at a young age, initially painting landscapes that evoked emotion and beauty. Trained at the University of Ottawa in both Photography and Studio, she developed a unique approach rooted in spirituality and a deep desire to find meaning in the everyday moments that surround us.
Working primarily in acrylic paints, Susan explores the juxtaposition of bold colours and shapes, often using nature as her inspiration. Her process is intuitive yet structured, resulting in work that evokes depth and a desire to ‘look closer’.
Over a career spanning 30 years, Susan has exhibited in both Europe and Japan, where she spent many years creating. She currently has a solo show coming up in November at the Exchange in Niagara Falls.
As Susan's practice continues to evolve, her work is gaining more depth and layers, asking the viewer to look deeper and feel what they are seeing, to embrace the flow.
