Geoff Farnsworth is a Canadian painter whose work merges classical technique with expressive abstraction, producing evocative portraits and dreamlike imagery that speak to both personal narrative and collective imagination. Trained at the renowned Art Students League of New York, Farnsworth developed his practice at the intersection of observation, improvisation, and layered experimentation. His art appeals to collectors who value the fluid interplay of form, gesture, and psychological presence.

Beginning his formal training in Vancouver through the Federation of Canadian Artists, Emily Carr, and Capilano College’s Graphic Design & Illustration Program, Farnsworth’s early interest in form and visual structure evolved into a full-time commitment to painting. In 1997, he moved to New York City, immersing himself in life drawing and figurative realism at the Art Students League. It was there, between classical discipline and the city’s charged energy, that his style began to shift—synthesizing form with colour, process, and intuitive abstraction.

After 9/11, increasing visa restrictions led Farnsworth to Toronto, where he further honed his practice before settling in St. Catharines, Ontario. Today, he is a prominent figure in the Niagara art community, serving on the Board of the Niagara Artists Centre, teaching in Niagara College’s Graphic Design Program, and collaborating with fellow artists and musicians across the region. His involvement with the Willow Community further reflects his commitment to inclusive arts education and community building.

Farnsworth’s paintings—whether loosely rendered portraits, animal studies, or semi-abstract compositions—are layered in atmosphere and mood. Using oils and mixed media, he allows each canvas to evolve organically, embracing spontaneity while maintaining a strong structural foundation. The result is artwork that invites long looking—enigmatic, soulful, and charged with poetic ambiguity.

His work has been exhibited in galleries and exhibitions across Canada, the U.S., and internationally—including New York City, Washington DC, Minneapolis, Toronto, Vancouver, Niagara Falls, Thunder Bay, Sweden, Norway, and Trinidad. His growing international presence reflects the depth, emotional resonance, and collector appeal of his practice.

Whether placed in a home, public institution, or private gallery, Geoff Farnsworth’s paintings offer more than aesthetic beauty—they offer mystery, depth, and an invitation to contemplate the spaces between what is seen and what is felt.
